Windows Defender

A friend asked me to check why he could not get Windows Defender to work on his Win 7 PC. I have never used this, but I checked his machine and found the WD icon. Clicking it popped up a message saying that it was off and did I want to turn it on. I did and after a while an error code (oxox800705b4) popped up.

I then tried to turn it on while using my own Win7 PC...same thing happened, no Windows Defender. Anyone?

If there is a 3rd party security application running it probably shuts off WD.
