Hi,

So here it is, the windows update that brings an annoying window on startup:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976002

Explained in following link with screenshot:

I have some computers with IE7, with no other browser, and they received this update (should I call it malware? :))

There is no clean way of uninstalling this update, and I would prefer not to hack the registry for this.

Those computers are intended to stay with IE (at least for now), so my question is:

If I click the option IE8, it will probably install Internet Explorer 8 (hurray for this conclusion :)) - will it stop annoying the users with this window?

I ask this because apparently, it appears when IE is the default browser ... but if I install IE8, it still will be the default browser ...

Thanks

I suggest writing to your representative in whatever country you reside, and complain. Let those jokers take your support call. Maybe they'll stop interfering with the legitimate business practices of companies.

To answer your question, selecting IE8 should get rid of the Euro screen.

I'll wait some time before moving to IE8, but I will probably make the move, since now I have one more reason to do it ... although it is a stupid reason, really ... :\

Maybe a patch comes up to remove the screen ... (yeah, keep dreaming ...)

Thanks

Wait...the browser "choice" screen keeps appearing on every boot if you CHOOSE to keep running any IE less than IE8? Seriously? You have to hack the registry to get rid of it? That's not a choice at all. Where is the "leave me alone I'm intelligent enough to pick my own browser" choice? Way to go EU.

Wow, it even deletes your start menu and taskbar links to IE7...

This is when you bring in AD to use a GP that won't let users run firefox.exe, chrome.exe, opera.exe, etc.
