windows boot error

I tapped my heat sensitive power key on my care like 5 times and it shut down obviously. when I try to reboot I get this error.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

THIS IS WINDOWS VISTA x32 HOME BASIC


I left my windows vista disc at school which is a 3 hour drive I don't want to make. how fixable is this?

Download BCDedit and see if you can fix the the boot loader.

I don't know how much you know.
You may have to do some reading at Microsoft Help and Support/TechNet.

ometimes if you leave the system off for a minute then boot up again it will be fine. If not then you currupted a main system file and will need to perform a repair install.

I can only get my hands on a copy of windows ultimate at the moment. can I repair a basic version of windows with an ultimate disc?
