Windows-based Host Recommendations

It'll be basically used as an FTP server running a small custom-made program that allocates files. Storage space should be a minimum of 80GB. Reliability is paramount (no down time as much as possible). Server should also provide VNC access.

I don't offer windows based hosting yet, but those requirements are pretty high for a shared server of any type. You'll probably want to increase your budget and get your own dedicated server or something, but it probably won't be anywhere near around $80/month.

AMD Sempron2600
? AMD Sempron 2600
? **2 x 80GB Hard Drives**
? 512MB RAM
? Bandwidth: 1000GB
? IP Addresses: 8 (5 usable)
? Private VLAN
? Basic Resource Monitoring
? FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux, Windows*
? 100% Self Managed and Dedicated

Monthly Fee Options:
? $65/Month / $19 Setup

Add windows and it comes to $85 a month. Assuming you can manage the server yourself that would be your best bet. No shared hosting environment will get you VNC access, and a VPS won't be able to handle your space requirements.

If you really need reliability forget about places offering to host your stuff on a desktop system. Real servers will have the best uptime. (multiple processors, ECC memory, hardware raid with hot spare drives that can auto rebuild in the background) Things not found on desktop systems. Can this be done for $80/month? Yes it can but not the usual channels. If you look around and talk you can probably have someone willing to "hook a brother up" kind of thing. 😉

VNC? Better use a VPN (more $$$) or better yet terminal server with strong passwords. 🙂

Yep LT offers the best bang for your buck on a DEDICATED SERVER, assuming you know how to admin a server.
