windows auto update

i was updating windows using windows update today and i dled teh auto thing because it was small and im on dial up. anyway when it was dooing its setup i hit Dl and install things automatically. then later i noticed it was running and dooin whatit should. when it was done i checked the site and saw that i had all teh updates except the .net framwork one SP3 for win 2k and one other large Dl that would have taken likean hour each. so anyway about 30 min later after a cople reboots because of some softwhere installations i check the site again just to see what is left. and to my suppridse everythinghas ben DLed and installer. there are no more updates. now im woundering how these got dled with out me knowing or clicking OK when they needed to install. i also wasent onlong enuff for these to Dl seein as SP3 is like 50 megs and it takes me 10 min to dl 5 megs. can anyone explain how this happened. is there a way to check and see if SP3 was installed and teh .net stuff so i can be sure it was installed and it isnt just an error on the win update page???

It might be an error from WindowsUpdate.

Right click on My Computer and choose Properties. You'll see the version of Service Pack installed. If you go to the Administrative Tools in the Start Menu, if it has the .NET Framework stuff, then you have it installed. Also, you can check if you have a C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 folder for the .NET Framework Runtime.

humm right clciking on my computer shows me as having SP2 and i also dont have tthat .net folder. DAMN win update being stupid!!!!!!

you have any idea why win update is retarted??? other then being run by microsoft???? i have restarted and it still says the same thing

you don't need the .NET framework
you do, however, need SP3.

i knwi dont need teh .net thing and its not that im looking to DL SP3 now but i plan on dooin it next week when im back at home on my cable modem its just that i would like this to work because there were other thigs besides thoes 2 that werent installed and i dontknow what they were

if you go into your Add/Remove Program, you'll see a whole list of stuff towards the bottom.
Those are the stuff that have been installed. As far as I know, if you do a clean installation and go to WindowsUpdate, everything that you'll need to download minus SP3 and .NET only amounts to something like 25 MB.

i sent in a error report thing off thw win update site hopefully they will be able to fix this

what you could do is uninstall a few of the Hotfixes and go back to WindowsUpdate and see if you get them.

And disable the download and install automatically. At most set it to only download automatically, and have to be OK'd by you in order to install the updates.

how do i dissable teh DL automatically i wasent really paying attention when i told itto do that
never mind i got that. i just dled sp3 from that site and im installin it which means my connection is gonna die because oim in dial up. maby ill be fixed when sp3 is installed ill let you know in liek 2 hours when its done

ill ignore thoes last 2 posts anyway i installed Sp3 and the winupdate site still says i have everything installed. o well guess its up to MS to fix this one
