Windows Apps On Ubuntu !!!

Hi, i'm about to try Ubuntu on my old pc, so i'm just wondering if i could run windows apps in it without having to install windows os as dual boot??? I've heard of something called vmware that could run windows apps in linux. Is it right???
 
You can use WINE to run most windows apps. The adobe suite runs pretty well under WINE and with work even the ebil wabbit IE6 will run. Games can be ran via WINE with some tweakage but most games run on Cedega which is a commercial version of WINE.

Go to www.winehq.com and check to see if your apps are supported. VMware is not the free option nor is it a performance choice. WINE for the win.
 
Why not find a comparable linux app? Put multiverse into your repo list and then Synaptic has a boatload of apps
 
Don't try using Windows apps on Linux, chances are you'll just end up disappointed and frustrated. Just about everything other than games has a similar or better (IMO) alternative on Linux, it would be better to use them.
 
If you're still running a DOS program and that developer won't update it to run on an OS that's been supported in the last 2 decades he should be fired and you should find a better alternative.

If you can't live without this program wine might work, but it's geared towards making Windows programs work not DOS ones. Another option would be dosemu, but I've never used it myself.

DOSBox would be another option as well.
 
DOSBox .... should it be installed inside ubuntu??? then which one should i choose in the download page??? There's so many versions there ...
 
Yep, just "sudo apt-get install dosbox" in a terminal or Ctrl-F "dosbox" in the Synaptic package manager. Then read the documentation for Dosbox.
Wine will run it faster than Dosbox if it runs it at all, but like Nothinman said, wine is targeted at Windows apps and often does not run DOS programs.
