Windows and pointing device scroll direction

Thanks to an experience with one of my customers who changed from using a Mac to Windows, I only just noticed this.

Chronologically speaking, AFAIK it was Apple who decided that wheel scroll up = moving downward/advancing through a document. Then at some point touchpad manufacturers inexplicably also thought that this was a great idea. Standard touchpad drivers in Win10/11 have this implemented by default now.

However, a mouse wheel scroll down still goes with the Windows traditional default, ie. scroll down equals scrolling downward/advancing through a document. I would have thought by now that Windows would have had a feature configurable through the UI brought in by now, but a quick search suggests that it can only be done through a registry tweak.

Has anyone else here had any experience with this?
