windows AMD cpu drivers

I just reinstalled WinXP Pro & put on SP2 from a cd. On windowsupdate.com, under the hardware updates catagory there is one for AMD K7 Processors, to which that update fails to install for some reason. Always installed when I didn't have SP2 on the computer. Anyone know what this is, what it does, and if I really should have it?

That's very odd. I've never heard of anyone having CPU driver issues.

I dont know what it does, but when doing windows update for my AM64 I get same driver, but mine installs

I get "AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+," and Windows has this driver, and should for every AMD or Intel x86 processor ever made commerically available. What does windows detect your CPU as?

Its ussually just for a the CPU names. Ther is also the cool and quiet drive but I don't think that can be downloaded through Windows update.

I've had it show up before, but it doesn't do anything. Don't worry about it.

The update has got to be there for a reason, I'm thinking maybe the necessary update was included with SP2. I sent an e-mail to AMD directy asking about it, I'll have to see if they respond.

Try calling AMD. It's much faster that way.
