Windows 98 to 98Se help please

how do i get the updates if i dont have a windows 98 machine but i should be able to go to the windows up date and save those, right?? from any machine.

I would pretty much need every update they have out.

I did everything that you said to do MrChad and after all of that when it rebooted after going through all the Cd stuff it still comes up and says the same things as before.


You started yoru computer with a version of MS-DOS incompatible with this version of Windows. Insert a Startup diskette matching this verision of Windows and then restart.

The system has be halted. Press Ctrl+Alt+del to restart your computer

I restarted with the 98se cd in the cd drive with nothing in the floppy drive. the above message is what i get. But when asked about where to boot from I tell it to boot from the hard Drive, right??

Ok now i have it restarted but now it asked for the 98SE cd and i put it back in and its copying files but now it says:

The file "dhcpcsvs.dll" on Windows98 Second Edition CD ROM cant be found

setup could not find a file on the specified path. If the path appears below make sure it is correct. Click ok to try copying again.


I have seen this before but never knew what to do. What should the path be??

i put in E:\win98\NET7.CAB and also tried D:\win98\NET7.CAB because this is there i found the file on the cd using the other computer.

I put the cd in another computer and searched for the file and found it but when i type in the location it still does not copy it., help please

I just put in E:\win98 and it went through and is now moving to the new hardware found screen.


Sorry to post so much about this but I am tring to get this computer to work so I can use it for school( SUMMER SCHOOL) since I had to send my other laptop off .

Glad you got things working.

There's a comprehensive list of updates here. You can also use the Unofficial Windows 98SE service pack, which a lot of people have had success with.
