windows 98 is still a viable operating system to many people and to even remotely compare it to that piece of crap windows me is not accurate. windows me was the biggest blunder in operating systems that microshaft has ever made!

Yea and they laughed all the way to the bank at the suckers who bought it and didn't demand a refund.

The is a really good comment! Windows 98 is a excellent OS that milions of machines still run on. It was easly screwed up by operators tha know nothing and will never know nothing.
It will be used for a long time, if you have 20 machines with 98 the cost of upgrading to XP is enough to bread some small businesses But of course if you steal the OS it is cheap and then you can belittle those that are not willing to do this kind of thing.

Now that's just a flatout lie.
It doesn't suck as much as ME, but it sure does suck.

I wish MS would just tell people who are still running it to suit themselves, and drop that piece of junk.

its obvious from the amount of Win98 flamers in this forum......

alot of ppl were unable to figure out how to use Win98! :p
too simple for them i guess.
there is nothing wrong with Win98, it runs perfectly.

Sane memory handling?
Sane user handling?
Having to restart so friggin often?
Crash prone(much doe to the not so sane memory handling).
Crappy filesystems.
Inherently insecure.

Win98 is utterly useless for any kind of serious work, and ok at best for gaming.

Why anyone would want to buy a copy of Windows 4.x based on the Windows 98 line well after windows 5.x (Windows 2000) was released was and still is beyond me.

Heh.

Windows is a OS that is easily screwed up by operaters who know nothing and will never know nothing. It is also easily screwed up by operators who know the ins and outs of it to a significant degree. Hell it's so screwed up even MS gave up completely up on it when they created the winME disaster and realised that it's a design that has no future. IF MS screwed it up....

There are two reasons why anybody should be using windows 98.

1. completely obsolete computers that are not worth the effort, time or money to upgrade to a sane operating system and are already running windows 98.

2..

Ok, I lied there is only one reason.

As Bleep said, there is another reason for not upgrading. Many people, businesses, and institutions cannot afford to upgrade. I donate my time to a small private elementary school that owns ~50 PC's. It is entirely beyond their budget to upgrade, even with the discount offered them. Windows 98 may not be state of the art, but it allows us to introduce our pupils to the basics of using a computer.

I swear, I've never had a problem with ME, I used to use for like 4 years, and never had a problem - then I moved to 2000 then XP (I dont really like XP, but oh well).
