Windows 98 SE Shutdown Problems

I am getting a black screen and the mouse pointer when I try to shutdown Windows 98 SE. I tried the MS troubleshooting suggestions to no avail. Anyone experinced this same problem?

Have you installed the two shutdown patches available for 98se? Which troubleshooting options have you tried (defragging?)?

I downloaded the patches, but decided to do some more troubleshooting in accordance with Microsoft's guide. Found out that the system had a corrupted irq miniport driver or it was not finding it in the registry. So I use my EPOX disc and loaded all the PCI IRQ assignment stuff. Rebooted and all is fine. Should still load the MS updates?

if all is fine, i wouldn't load any drivers. Why rock the boat now when it has now become steady?? 🙂

glad to see you got it working
