I am looking for a piece of software that will lockdown a windows 98 workstation that is not on a network. I need it so that if the user creates shortcuts on the desktop ,delete icons on the desktop, move icons around, move or resize the menu bar, etc.. These changes will not be saved. The next time the system is rebooted it will go back to the way it was.

What is the best, easiest and least expensive way to do this?

Try Lock2002 for Win9x. http://www.crashcoursesoftware.com/.

The beta is iffy at best, so just use the 30 day trial version. After 30 days its 25 smackaroos for registration. Better yet, look in the net and try and find an older version which works quite well, and it's free.

But if you ask me, your best bet is to use Win2k Pro or WinXP with different user accounts which does all this incorporated.

At my school they use Deepfreeze it works pretty well you could delete the windows folder and all the files on the root drive and when you restart nothing has changed.
