windows 98 problems...help!

MrDudeMan

Lifer
i am trying to dual boot windows 98 and windows xp, and it is working for the most part...

when i get into 98, i can not get online, however. i installed the network card drivers, and it just will not work. ive tried everything. i know the computer works because when i boot into xp, the internet works just fine. and, it worked earlier in 98, i was playing a CS LAN game!

something keeps messing up, and when i try to fix it, then it all breaks completely. sometimes i get the vserver.vxd is missing crap, but i got that file and i thought it was fixed. sometimes when i boot up it says NDIS protection error, but i think that is because i had it overclocked...so i turned it down to normal speed just in case and i guess it hasnt happened since (p4 1.6A @ 2.13, but back at 1.6).

if i uninstall the drivers and uninstall the device for the network card, i restart and things seem to be ok, but it still will not get online. i need to just get rid of this garbage and get windows 98 SE, right?

any ideas? sorry this is not very descriptive.

Thanks for the link, it's too bad that MS won't just let you download the hotfix:
"To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix."

If there are more time bombs like this I may have to skip installing W98SE next time I upgrade my main system, and just keep it on one of my older boxes for gaming. 🙁

arg, i figured out that it was the problem when i got it to right around 2.0 ghz...that sucks!

thanks for the link!
