Windows 98 - "Out Of Disk Space" Error with 8 Gigs Free

My computer is reporting at 8 gigs that I have run out of disk space on drive c. I have one 40 gig drive partitioned into two 20 gigs, and I have a 15 gig drive. My C drive is one of the 20 gig partitions. If I try to install a game, as soon as the disk space free hits 8 gigs, the installation comes up with an error that says "run out of space" and windows comes up with a message saying "You have run out of diskspace. You can try to run Disk Cleanup." or something like that, and the options are Run Disk Cleanup or Cancel. Any ideas here!? Thanks!

This can be caused by a corrupt File Allocation Table (FAT)
The chances are that you are actually using nearly 20gigs, but your drive is corrupt and reporting 8gig free.
Run windows scandisk and see if the amount of free space reported changes.

Here are a few things to check if what WoodChuck said is not the problem

Check your swap file size, it should be managed by windows for ease of use
found in control panel
check your recycle bin allocation size, just right click on recycle bin and click properties
check your internet explorer, and make sure it's not allocating a very large amount for history and temp files
if any of these got whack, and was set to a very high level, it could cause your problems.

Did you recently add memory? Is it over 512 megs? I think there is an issue with win9x and memory over 512 megs. I believe there is a registry edit that needs to be performed but I forget at the moment. Or maybe the error I am thinking about is "Out of memory". I forget, oh well.
