Windows 98 on modern hardware

Pretty much my situation is this: I would like to have Windows 98 installed on my nForce4 motherboard. Unfortunately, no drivers for this support Windows 9x.

I'm currently running on 16 colors and 640X480 resolution, and would really like Windows to use my graphics card, or at least something better than the lowest thing possible.

Is there anyway to make this happen?

You could get a DOS emulator to play DOS based games.

or try and find an old PII machine for $50 and use that.

Yeah - in effect, you create a virtual DOS machine on a newer system.

DosBox or a $50 rig from the FS/FT forum and a $50 KVM.

I have a sh!tload of old games. Commander Keen 1 - 6 included. I just wish I could get my hands on Raptor (the plane game).

There are 2 emulators to play old games on new machines that I can suggest. Scummvm plays almost all of the old Lucas arts games (DOTT, Indiana Jones, Sam n Max) and several other engines also. For other dos games Dosbox works very well.

Thanks guys, but actually the games I wanted to play (TIE Fighter and X-Wing) work natively on 16 colors and 640X480, so it's perfect!

I just wish I knew that it doesn't automatically detect the nice FAT32 partition I made it on my secondary hard drive. Stupid Windows 98 and your automatic deletion of everything,

Hi, My son's company bought a Dell XP pro machine. It wouldn't run their company software. They tried to revert to 98 but had no luck. Brought it to me. I finally got the 98 drivers from the Chip Set maker in my case Intel. Give it a go if it's really worth it to you. Lots of luck, Jim
