I'm not the first one to have this problem, I searched Google groups regarding the problem, and a lot of things came up.. after about 5 minutes of clicking through 5 pages of all the links and no answers, I thought I'd post here.
What happens is... the PC is Windows 98.. the printers are network printers. person tries to print a document, computer freezes up, or gives error about printing (numerous things, not just 1 error) and when you check the printers control panel everything is gone. the ONLY way to get the printers back is to restart.. problem..... HASSLE!
how the HELL do you fix this silly problem? does anyone know the answers? someone on AT must know this.
My printers are fine on my XP and 2000 computers at work, but the 98 machines have this problem of losing networked printers, and it's hella annoying to me cause everyone calls our department about it.
here is some more info you MAY want...
- doesn't matter which brand of printer, they ALL disappear.
- windows based printing only, spool entry printing on unaffected as it should be.
- windows 98 ONLY (maybe 95 or ME too, but none here)
- windows NT 4.0 sharing the printers and PC's are verified on the domain of our company.
if anyone feels they can help and need anything else, just post up and let me know 😀
thanks.
