I have a serial mouse and I want to use my new intellimouse ps/2, but when I reboot with the ps/2 windows doesn't detect it. I made sure that the ps/2 is the only mouse installed, and I know it works because I bummed it from another pc. Is there something in the bios that I'm not doing right. I know the drivers are good, I got them from Microsoft. I doesn't make sense. It won't reconize it's there. Help Please.

There usually IS something in the bios that affects the ps/2 mouse.
There's usually a setting labled something like "Enable PS/2 Mouse Support" or thereabouts.

It could also be an IRQ problem...so you can disable the Com Port you're not using in the Bios and see if that frees up an IRQ for the PS/2.

What if I need to use the same com port that the serial mouse is pluged into for the ps/2 mouse. If I disable the IRQ won't that ensure that it will not be detected??

Are you trying to use a converter to use a PS/2 mouse on a serial port? There is a problem with the newer MS PS/2 Intellimice not working with a serial port converter. I've seen that.

Slikkster is correct, the use PS/2 setting must be enabled in BIOS.

That's exacally what I'm trying to do. I didn't know this was a problem. Put me on your list of ps/2 intellimouse not working on a serial mouse port.

LOL...I was waiting for someone else to have this problem. The older intellimice work fine with the adapter....but then they changed something. Hell, mice are dirt cheap. I get the intellimouse for $14 today, buy yourself a serial version. :D
