Windows 8 users prefer Windows 7

This is the first OS that I do not upgrade to, since 3.11->95.

Aero was a big fail from the start, I always disable it and run on classic desktop.

When it was new, it needed a mid range GFX to run smoothly.
Now when it is just starting to be not as heavy, they take it out.

It has always been a waste of battery power or just waste of electricity, for effects that can be replaced with a lighter less demanding look.

Don't know but I personally never liked it. Faux glass and transparencies are really ugly to me. I think the bigger decision for them was that it was an aesthetic they could change to save power. And Windows 8 does a good job with battery management, I'm getting a good increase.

I akin Aero to the live wallpapers in Android. While amusing and fun, terrible for battery.

I don't think it's "stupid" or even necessarily wrong to believe that a tablet OS can't be a legitimate computer OS. I'm just saying that if you already believe this to be the case - that a tablet OS CANNOT be a legit computer OS - then nothing Microsoft put in Windows 8 was going to convince you. Period.

I have to disagree here,I will be getting Win8 and Win9,10 down the road as well.

I always like to be an early adopter and try new things,Win8 may be going way of tablet/touch sreen but so are many hardware devices nowadays so that's Microsoft logic behind it,however its still very good OS as a desktop OS with Start8 ,end of the day it boots faster,shuts down faster ,longer battery life then Win7 on laptop/notebooks but with same stability but faster speed.

I'm a Win7 fan as well but have to call it like I see it,sure its a radical change from Microsoft and some people don''t like changes,however end of the day Win8 is fast/solid and can be use as desktop or tablet OS.
As usual you will always get some people moaning and bitching about changes/dislikes etc.. I remember these same things happening with 2K,XP,Vista even 7 etc...


I would of like to see something new for gamers,however I'm still hoping Microsoft will throw gamers a bone in Win8 down the road.
I'll say Win8 has grown on me and once you get use to the changes and know your way around the OS its actually quite good.


Side note I do miss Aero(would of been nice to give Win8 users an option setting to use it or not).

🙄 I get it, I just disagree with you. Which I've said twice now. So either you're not listening, or you don't get it.

🙄 That was an example. I'd bet the majority of people who complain about it will still end up getting it. So they will give it a chance whether they want to or not. What else are they going to do when they get a new computer, switch to Linux or Apple. Possible, but most won't. They'll keep on putting up with Windows, despite the stupid "formerly known as Metro" thing.
 
Install the free Classic Shell software if you prefer the Windows 7 style menus. It'll feel just like Windows 7 afterwards -- except a bit faster (good), and without Aero (no big loss). The "Metro" stuff will still be there if you ever wish to use it, but you can ignore it until then.

Oh... you'll of course also want to reset some of the defaults to use your preferred non-Metro apps. PDF reading, image viewer, music player, etc. But this is easy enough, and needs to be done only once. And it's something that you'd probably have done under Windows 7 anyway.

It gets better than that - With Classic shell you can install a Windows XP start menu, which is much more useful than the Windows 7 start menu. It also makes shutting down the system so much easier. I'm actually glad Windows 8 doesn't have a start menu, as now I can install classic shell.

I'm starting to like Windows 8 a little better, but only because I've figured out how to get around a lot of it's annoyances.

More likely most will continue to use W7 until W9 comes out as it will likely resolve many of the annoying aspects. Others will likely turn to 3rd parties like Start8..etc. Most everyone who uses WMC for their HTPC's will contineu W7 till its dead completely. Gamers will see no benefit, performance is slightly dipped in comparisons.

Aside from a few benchmark friendly performance boosts, it really isn't upgrading much and downgrade to WMC users, were still stuck with MS's really generic and crappy built in software which will get replaced by the same 3rd party software everyone is using now...so what would be the point besides faster bootups?

I find Gnome Shell to be much better despite some similarity, its far faster to swap between apps, activate the start menu..etc. plus the full screen menu doesn't transition into a totally different background shocking your eyeballs.

A lot of Window users like myself are gamers so we have no choice but to install Windows,its has nothing to do with Metro,end of the day Windows has the largest games PC wise,I do use Win7 and 8 plus Ubuntu as well on my other PCs so have it all covered.

End of the day Win8 is solid and not a hard OS to learn however I do wish they would have thrown something extra in for gamers like myself.

You could also argue in a few weeks or so Nvidia and AMD will both start prioritizing drivers for Win8,so one reason why I have switched over,be interesting to see what game developers do with Win8.

Well Vista got DX10,Win7 had DX11(I know Vista got that too bit later)however would of been nice if Win8 got DX12 first at the very least.

It's a bit more than bug fixes. Win8 has some design flaws in it, that's what Paul was speaking more on.
 
I still think having the developer preview start button is a good idea. At least people won't be lost with the hot corners and all

He does say
Allen thinks that Microsoft will fix a lot of these things in the next release of Windows 8. Or he thinks that industrious third-party app developers will come up with apps or fixes for them. For instance, a live tile clock app has already been developed, he notes.

Marketing has worked very well on you.:whiste:
A new API does not mean the old API could not achieve the same visual end results, like Crytek getting dx11 like effects on ps3.But how about we let DX11 become more common first. Having a couple of dx12 titles a year after release is kinda pointless.

his list of complaints are pretty major annoyances to a daily user,imo. Enough so cause a stigma, where the name will forever be branded in a negative light even after they fix all those issues. This is one of those types of OS releases where they really need to get it right the first time. I think they need to cancel the release and take another year on it.

I also believe MS needs to focus on enhancing the out of box experience. Most people still have to rely on many 3rd party apps immediately after a new install. From codecs to compression file types which means installing the likes of Winrar and codec packs, the OS is half worthless without conversion tools, proper picture editing and why not simply add streaming to Apple and Android devices as well as their own? because people are not going to go entirely all MS devices just to stream to them automatically, no they'll install Itunes..etc to automate it for them...again, relying on 3rd parties to make your PC useful, those are features that most people use their PC for..so why not provide it or at least give us a raw OS without any of those generic apps.

You are missing my point, I was was talking as a gamer,it would be nice to have gotten something new,as to marketing it has nothing to do with it,I always try out new OS when they are released even on Linux Distro's.
