Windows 8 Storage Spaces

I have a storage space on Windows 8 that is made up of 4 external hard drives. When 3 drives are plugged in, the computer is fine. When I open Storage Spaces in the control panel, there is a symbol that says OK with a green check by the 3 drives that are connected to the computer.

But when I plug in the fourth external hard drive, the Storage Spaces window reads: (Not Responding). The computer seems to freeze. This setup was working for many months until recently, and I don't know what's gone wrong.

I have no idea what to do to fix the problem--I'm afraid I've lost all my data! Thank you for your help.

Check the last disk you are trying to connect on your computer (inside via a SATA cable to a SATA port). See if it is recognized in the BIOS/UEFI and from your operating system.
