Wow, Windows 8 Beta already coming out this summer? Windows 7 still feels fresh, even though it went RTM in summer 2009.

It should be interesting to see how Windows 8 runs on ARM-based platforms.

Cool! As am I. Sometimes redo my system daily just for fun lol. I would do it more often if I had 5 + pcs.

Why wait until you have 5 PCs? I do it with my 2 PCs already =)

I'm guessing the ARM platform one will run first. Since ARM is single-core I would assume and probably not designed for extreme multi-tasking, it probably will be the one to have Windows 8 first, then a desktop version after.

I bet the ARM version will come second. That is going to be a lot of work, and they'll probably want to test out new functionality on the proven platform (x86) before implementing it for ARM.

It'd also be interesting to see if Microsoft will allow compatibility with existing x86 & x86-64 applications on an ARM-based Windows 8, utilizing a compatibility layer like WoW (Windows on Windows) or OSX's Rosetta.

Why do you think the ARM version would come second? If anything, it would come first since there are a LOT more customers on Intel or actual computer units.

I agree. The best gaming developers develop games on Windows, not iOS or Android. It will be amazing to see WoW ported over to a tablet or similar games.

Err no, you get dual and even quad core ARM processors. Nvidia's Kal El is a quad core ARM based CPU.

It should come along at about the same time. Despite how it looks these days, NT was designed to be portable from the beginning. NT 3.x and 4 were released on 4 or 5 architectures. MS just killed the others like MIPS and Alpha because no one really cared. Once they fix up the low level code for booting and such the rest should essentially fall into place since it's mostly C and C++.

Yea, MS' stranglehold on the business and consumer desktop market sure has proven they have no idea what they're doing with desktop OSes...
