Windows 8 (+iPad 3) may lead to the end of the world

Seriously.

Metro is a horrible, horrible user interface designed for people who want to consume media clips on a tablet and write 50 character comments or tweets.

I have a feeling that Windows 8 + Metro and the iOS movement will lead to rapidly stupider and stupider people, and less and less meaningful interactions.

The end of neigh.

Metro is awesome, but might have the "Vista effect" or the "ribbon effect" so wait until Windows 9 for everything to settle. The good 'ole explorer still stays there.

The app centric UI of iOS needs an overhaul, its getting pretty dated with its near-static icons.

I liked Metro on my Zune. I like Metro on my Samsung Focus. I think I'd like it on a tablet. There's no way I'd like it on a desktop computer.

The Eloi will use iOS, and the Morlocks will run Windows.

I've purchased 2 tablets and will purchase a third.

Every year they make a new iPad Every year I get a new iPad.

OP, now you know you're old.

Consumer desktops are dinosaurs. Mobile is the future of computing.

Yeah, nothing like doing real work on a tablet, like processing massive amounts of data, doing 3D CAD or doing Finite Element Analysis.

Of course workstations will still exist... for now.

Your children will use tablets to control those workstations remotely, you'll probably be stuck with the old direct physical interface. When they grow up with tablets they'll run circles around you and show it 'how its done'.

It's a new mobile generation. The same kids who cannot be seperated from the cell phone in their ear. Their computer will be much the same.

Metro looks nifty and I think I could like it on a tablet, but I don't see it really being used for an actual productive PC. Just like an ipad is fine for watching movies/clips and stuff, but I wouldn't consider using it for real work.

Wrong place for this thread and by the time Win8 is out, knowing how to get it to use a win7 interface will be so many keystrokes typed into a search engine away....
