The more complex you make something the more the chance that programmers will not understand it completely. This will lead to a greater chance of places where security is likely to fail.

I can agree to that much. But how are you going to get malware onto the host? The only way to distribute Metro applications is through the Store. Even with a convoluted API it's not as if attacking the hosts directly is a practical option these days.

malware will always be an issue with windows. its never a great idea to use any mainstream OS for sensitive data to begin with.

i kinda like the new ui. it's something different. the desktop is still there, just that it's not the first thing you see after logging in 🙂

The desktop is still there, but only for traditional windows apps. The new Metro Style apps based on WinRT (the replacement for Win32) have no interaction with the desktop. MS is also heavily pushing developers to move to the new Metro UI over the Desktop environment.

So far, the stylus usability is absolutely atrocious.
There is no way to bring up the start mouseover with the stylus. There is no way to scroll by dragging with the stylus how you would with your finger. Basically everything that you'd expect to work with your finger does not work with the stylus. Flicks to scroll doesn't work in half their interface menus.

Also is there a guide somewhere that teaches you the basics? It's not intuitive at all.

Conceptually the Desktop (old Win 7) is just one Application in the Metro UI.

I.e., as long as One wishes, One can run only the desktop Application with all of its "Sub Applications" (Office, Photoshop, Legacy games etc.).

As the time passes into a better future, many new Applications, and a lot of the old Applications will be written for the Metro.

That will not be a better future. It will be a crappy one, because the MetroUI sucks. It is NOT a good UI for a non-touchscreen desktop computer.

I have to agree, somewhat. Metro is great for Tablets and touch, but I find it limiting for desktop use, where I really use the current desktop metaphor to organize current projects and work. I enjoy the MetroUI on my tablet, but hate it on my desktop.
