What exactly is Windows 8.1? Is it a new operating system already?
So need to update my Win8 to Win8.1?
It's not final yet, that will arrive later this year,at the moment preview is like a beta version ,you are able to download and try it but it's not official/final version.
I'm waiting for final version.
I used 8.1 for four hours. or so. It would not load Norton Internet Security 2013, saying there was a compatibility issue, and my wireless adaptor would not work. I did not spend any time trying to resolve either because 8.0 plus Start8, or something similar, is far superior to 8.1. 8.1 is better than 8.0, but it still has a mediocre (at best) UI for Desktop users.
The only major improvement for me is they added the shutdown and restart options to the "right click" pop-up menu on the desktop's lower left corner. Search now includes the three categories instead of making the user click on "settings" or "files". Unfortunately, it still takes the user back to the Start page.
The Start button has been added back -- but it is a joke. They added a button to a corner that already was hot, but they added "Zero" functionally to the button. It just takes the user to the Start page just the like hot corner already did.
I find it hard to believe that Microsoft thinks this button will pacify the many people who complained. The people were complaining about the missing functionality, not the missing icon.
