Just tried to turned it off (got tired of having to login 3 times every time the machine crashes and it has been crashing a lot lately....)

So followed the instructions I found on microsoft.com which is going into UAC and turn it off.
For good measure also went into power options and turned that off.

Windows still wants a password.

I am figuring there's another place I need to change a setting but not sure. Could use some assistance.
Is this a live.com thing? If it is how to change that?

Thanks!

Sounds like you're trying to combine a couple things. You mentioned UAC, disabling your password, and you mentioned live.com. What you want to do is switch from using a live account to log in to using a local account to log in. Just Google "Windows 8.1 switch to local account". Then you'll disable the password for the local account, so Google "Windows 8.1 disable login password". You probably want to turn UAC back on though. It helps keep malware from installing and running on your pc without you knowing it. You won't have to type your password every time it pops up, but it will ask you if you want to run software that is a potential threat.

If Windows crashes it may "forget" the most recent changes. So your best bet would be to perform a reboot right after making the change. And, as has been stated, if you are not using a local accoung, you always have to sign in with a password (unless the PIN started with 8, I honestly don't recall).
