product key can be found in the system registry. right lick on the start button in desktop mode and select run, type 'regedit' and hit OK.
registry path is:
[hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\win8] value [productkey]
copy the product key, open the PC info screen described "launch windows activation," and enter the product key into the dialogue box.

if windows fails to activate with the product key, customer will need to find the original windows 8 product key, either on the certificate of authenticity on the back of the device, in the email receipt if they used an electronic software download, or in the documentation supplied with the full packaged product used to install windows 8.

major changes:
(1) 8.1 does not give the classic start menu back, but a button appears, end-users have to right click on the start menu button to get some kind of list option.
(2) 'search' in charms is collapsed more tightly with finished search-criteria results (looks worse..)
(3) the start menu (tile screen) will no longer allow users to right click on open space to allow the bottom pop-up bar to reveal "all apps," instead - there is a little arrow at the bottom left that allows customers to click on to show "all apps."
(4) other useless add-ons that may make 8.0 more annoying or like-able. and possibly, many more bugs as usual.
