Windows 8.1 charms bar and clock on desktop annoyance.

On my laptop with WIndows 8.1, with Start8, and using the touchpad (and in the desktop mode) - while in Internet Explorer (or Firefox), if I move the cursor too far to the right, it brings up the charms bar on the right and a clock in the lower left corner. Very obtrusive. I know I can then click on the screen and make them go away, but is there anyway to disable them? I tried disabling the Corner Navigation in the PC settings, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Hmm, been a couple months since I was in 8. I know in Vista and 7 you can turn their versions off under 'Turn Windows Features on or off.' I wonder if 8 is similar.

Are you doing it as administrator? Also have you tried rebooting after that? As this method works fine on all my pcs.

Desktop, move mouse to right side, select settings. Go to the bottom and select change PC Settings. Select Corners and edges and Corner Navigation. You can turn off charms there.
