Hello Group,
Which windows 7 version should I get?? I'm pretty much the typical home user but a big time gamer...

And what should I know about the switch over to windows 7?

Thanks, Jake

Home Premium should suffice.
Professional if you need Remote Desktop capability (although you can hack it into Home Premium) or need to backup to a network location.
Ultimate if you need additional languages or BitLocker encryption.

That pretty much sums it up. If you need remote desktop or want to add it to a domain, go to Professional.

Its the same underlying OS. Just a few high end features are enabled with the upper versions. Performance is the same. Im running logmein free for remote access and its a pretty good alternative to Remote Desktop.

another Q. about the win-7 install. I have 2 HDDs and I know by installing the new OS that I should do a fresh install on the primary HDD so that will wipe out everything but will it wipe out everything on my slave HDD? thx

It shouldn't. However, the best way to cover yourself is to simply unplug the cables from your 2nd hard drive and just run the install using your primary hard drive. Once it is installed, you can simply shut down, plug the cables back in, restart, and Windows should detect the second drive as normal.

Thanks, that is what I usually do on all the (32bit OS) installs but I really don't know about Win7 since its the 64bit version.

But I will take your advice, thx again!!
