Windows 7 Won't Recognize my HighPoint RAID1 Array

Just installed HighPoint RocketRaid 2640x4SGL into my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1 system consisting of GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard and i7-2600K CPU. The OS is installed on an SSD and I intend to use the RAID for my data drives only.

I installed two Hitachi Deskstar 3.5 Inch 3 TB CoolSpin SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drives 0S03228 and created an RAID 1 array using the BIOS. I installed the 1.5 drivers from the HP website and installed the WebGUI v1.5.6. I also flashed the BIOS to version 1.3.

When I boot into the OS the drivers look OK. However, when I go into Windows Disk Management, it sees two 3TB drives and not the one 3TB drive I would expect to see. The HP Service Manager utility shows that RAID service is not started not does it detect a controller. However, Windows Device Manager shows the controller is OK. And the WebGUI sees an array as well.

What do I need to get Windows to correctly recognize the mirrored array? I had problems with both the Marvel and Intel RAID Controllers on my motherboard handling the 3TB array, so that is why I bought the Highpoint.

Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem with The same Highpoint RocketRAID 2640xSGL card and 3 x 3TB Hitachi drives.

Did you ever resolve the issue?

Even if you setup the RAID in BIOS, you still need to create the RAID using the Highpoint utility as well. The card BIOS cannot support RAID for 3TB drives but the WebGUI can. I have been running rock steady since mid August.

Here is a recap of what I received from HighPoint support and what I replied:

Dear Sir or Madam,

1.Please check in WebGUI if the RAID is recognised as one 3T device.
2.The hptflash utility needs to run in administrator mode in win7.
3.The management service should be open with the green light on.
4.If still no success, please try with other model drive and check.

My response:

1.Please check in WebGUI if the RAID is recognised as one 3T device.

On the attached document I have included screen shots. Not sure what the WebGUI is telling me, but if I try to create a new RAID it tells me that now devices are available. But if I try to create a new RAID it tells me that NO new devices are available

2.The hptflash utility needs to run in administrator mode in win7.

That worked!

3.The management service should be open with the green light on.

If I run it in Admin mode it works. I must have missed that in the manual

4.If still no success, please try with other model drive and check.

I don't have other drives available that I can wipe out the data on.

Dear Sir or Madam,

The lable"L"means the drives are in Legacy status,it needs to initialise them first then they can be created to RAID.Try again.

My last response:

I was able to initialize the drives in the web app and the array has started building.

Hope this helps!

I got it working by un-installing the latest driver that I had installed from their website and instead installed the driver that came with the CD, this fixed the problem. I didn't have to do anything else.

I got the idea because someone on newegg had mentionned the opposite, his didn't work with the supplied drivers, but started working when he downloaded the latest drivers (which was a while back when they probably had a different set of drivers).
