OK, heres the problems I was having:

Programs sometimes would hang upon intallation
windows would hang upon shut down
internet explorer would freeze up
keyboard wouldn't enter bios
a few other strange things that I can't remember

So, I wanted to go to bios to set the cd rom to boot so I could repair windows from CD...and finally I was able to get into bios. The keyboard randomly worked and hitting delete got me into bios somehow. Upon simply restarting, everything appears to be fixed. Windows now restarts as it should and stuff installs etc. What the hell? I am trying to understand whats going on and I am clueless. I'll just use it until it screws up again.

So, am I alone with this strange windows 7 wierdness where it breaks and seems to somehow fix itself for no reason?

If you can't even get the keyboard to respond properly during the boot process, I suspect that there's something else wrong with your computer even if it appears to be fixed right now..

I think that is an issue with the P9X79 pro board that others have as well. You have to constantly switch USB ports in hoped of getting it to work, and the issue affects some keyboards more than others. It can be a real pain in the ass when you need to get into BIOS or use the KB prior to windows loading.
