Windows 7 Upgrade question

I have a question about the free Windows 7 upgrade with the purchase of a Vista OS. I want 64bit and was going to wait until Windows 7 came out but with this free upgrade, I want to take advantage of it. I also want to upgrade my motherboard in the near future as well. My question is, if I buy and install Vista on my current motherboard then buy a new motherboard early next year, can I upgrade to Windows 7 on the new motherboard or does the upgrade have to be on the same motherboard that Vista 64bit is on? How my question makes sense.

I don't think Microsoft has said whether or not the versions of 7 people would be getting with their upgrade coupons would be like those OEM Vista versions that "lock" to whatever machine they're initially installed on (though, like with the OEM discs, there will be ways around that both fair and foul before you ever rip open the shipping envelope or finish downloading it).
