windows 7 to windows xp issues

I have 2machines, one is 32 bit xp pro and the other 64 bit windows 7 pro. Both are fully patched. I'm trying to get them to share files but here is what I have.


1. The windows 7 machine can see the xp machine in network but when I connect I'm challenged for a uname/pw.

2. The xp machine can access the public folder on the windows machine, but can't access the rest of the hard drive even though I explicitly shared it to the everyone group. The xp machine can however print to the shared printers on the windows 7 machine.

What am I missing?

Home uses Homegroup features that allows sharing only between W7 computers. Someone also posted a xp/w7 networking question here you can reference to: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2064028.
