Windows 7 STILL changes my explorer view

So this weekend I finally installed Windows 7 RTM on my main workstation. I was assured there would be no shenanigans about randomly changing view preferences in explorer depending on the folder content. Not true. All I want is have detailed view with filename, type, size and date modified columns unless I tell windows otherwise. So I set up view how I like it and did "apply to all folders" in explorer options. And yet, Win7 still insists on showing thumbnails in folder with video files when I browse it. What the...?

Does anyone know solution to this problem?

I've used these, and it does exactly what you want.

Note that it says Vista, but it worked in 7 RC fine for me.

Really disappointed to hear that Win7 continues Vista's I-know-better behavior with regard to folder views... that was going to be my #1 reason to upgrade.

I don't actually mind Vista's nannyish "Windows needs your permission to continue" behavior, but this folder-view nonsense gets in my way a dozen times an hour.

It's good to know there's a Registry hack that'll fix it, but geez...

There's a lot of noise on the internet about this bug but I've found most people don't fix the problem quite right.

The process you want is simple, here it is:
1.) Open a folder take, note of it's folder template (Right click > Customize this folder > Optimize for...)
2.) Change the View type to details, customize your column headers to your liking. Album artist, Album for Music, etc.
3.) Go to Organize > Folder and search options and click Apply to all folders.

Repeat this process for every template. Since I started using the beta version of Windows 7, I haven't had my folder settings change except in one instance, a power outage. When the PC came back up my Libraries folder (not my actual libraries) and Computer folder had both been changed. This fixed the problem for me in Vista, too, though I noticed non-user templated folders (Computer...) had a tendency to forget very often.

Are you running Crap Cleaner (CCleaner) by any chance?

I was having this problem with one of my W2K machines, a while back. It was driving me batty!

Turned out that I had to uncheck one of the boxes in the advanced section...

I could tell you which one it is, if I saw it, but I'm running on a Mint 7 machine right now. 🙂

Anyway, let me know if you're running Crap Cleaner, and I'll get back to this thread later, from Windows.
