Windows 7 screen saver options (already solved, but I found this curious)

I didn't think this could be done, but I guess I learn something new every day - I was wondering why a PC kept showing the user 'locked' screen a short while after it was left alone, despite the fact that the computer hadn't had time to switch the screen off yet or anything, all it had done was dim the screen slightly (laptop).

It turns out that in the screen saver options, the option labelled 'on resume, display login screen' can be enabled even without a screensaver selected. I always thought that the 'wait x minutes' and that tick box only became enabled once an actual screen saver was picked from the list.

I'm also aware of the option in CP > Power options which governs behaviour when a computer resumes from sleep or hibernation, but disabling this option on its own didn't make any difference.

Same with Windows 10, but it requires actually more mouse clicks (compared to XP/Vista/7) to get there. Progress my ass 🙂

The keyboard "Run" command would be my preferred method though, - "control desk.cpl ,1". If GUI doesn't deliver, cmd is the only way. Heh.
