Windows 7 'Restart'

Does a 'restart' from Windows 7 no longer do a reboot of the computer, like XP did? It appears to only restart Windows itself. If that's that case, is there some way to reboot other than shutting down and powering up again?

no, something must be wrong because restarting reboots the entire PC.

I definitely don't see the same thing on screen as when I power up. No BIOS messages, etc., and it's a lot faster.

I just tried on two Windows 7 systems and a restart does a full reboot for me on both (full post, then boot). Perhaps you have some type of special BIOS feature enabled for fast booting on restart?

Some BIOS's skip tests on a reboot. You might see "fast restart" mentioned as an option in there. Lots of dells used to do that.

Your motherboard may have the "fast boot" option selected, which can result in the behavior you're describing.

Fast boot option, actually never heard of that before. I've had different computers but i've never seen something that doesn't atleast go to the manufacturers splash screen. My computer actually stays on the whole time, lights and all. Its post lights/indicators and numbers reset and thats about it, just reboots like it turns on.
