i am currently on windows 8 and want to go back to windows 7. I lost the windows 7 disc so i decided i would use the product key on the back of my laptop. i entered it on
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery
so that i could download windows 7 again, but it comes up with this message:

Unsupported Product
The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options.

i really want windows 7 back with this product key.
someone please help me.

Call the manufacturer and order recovery discs, and with many manufacturers this can all be done online.

In general the responsibility for pre-installed OS' is the Computer's manufacturer or who ever originally installed it.

Microsoft provide this type of service to Stand alone Retail versions (I.e, not OEM versions).
------------

That said there are many Internet sites providing info on how to work with Win 8 in a similar way to Win 7.

Then wait for the Fall and you will get free upgrade to Win 10

am i ordering a recovery disc for windows 7 or 8 given my situation?

JackMDS gave you good and wise advice, upgrade to win 10 and enjoy free OPS.
I have 2 pcs with win 7 and i upgraded both to Win 10 and i'm happy so far. forget Win 7 for now. why to spend money on Win 7 discs if you can get Win 10 for free.

Your laptop doesn't have a recovery partition? I thought that was standard anymore.

Well, we will wait for the OP's reply, but he may have just wiped the whole drive when switching OSs.

Have you upgraded to 8.1? If you can't go back to 7, 8.1 might fix your issues (or make them bearable.)

So I looks like your model came with 8, but I don't see anything on Samsung's website for recovery media, so you will need to call them.

The system comes with 8, so when you call them you can ask if there are other options. Best idea IMO is to upgrade to 8.1 when you get the recovery media. If you miss the 7 feel, download one of the free start menu replacements.

I would suspect if you found a download for the windows 7 OEM version it would activate itself automatically using the key stored in the laptop BIOS if it's anything like how Dell does things.

Or install a Win 7 type start menu replacement and call it a day. This will likely take you around 5 minutes while finding a download and re-installing will take hours.

i guess windows 10 will be a good solution.
but when i upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10, will windows 10 be activated permanently and not a trial version or anything like that?
And are you sure i will be able to upgrade to windows 10 for free?

no the laptop came pre-insatalled with windows 7

Interesting. Maybe they re-use model numbers, because Samsung's webiste is listing 8(.0) for that model:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/NP350V5C-T01US
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/pcs/NP350V5C-T01US-specs

Does the laptop have a Windows 7 license sticker?

Regardless, your options haven't changed. Wait for Windows 10, or call Samsung about restore media. 10 will be a free upgrade for users of 7 and 8 (no expiriation except that you must purchase it within one year of release). There are links in the Windows 10 threads about free downloads for the preview. I am posting right now from within the preview running on a VM.

yes there is a license sticker

If you could get an another empty HDD,so you can spare your original win OPS install, then you could install from an win 7 Iso and install win 7 and when it asks for the activation key,try the auto activation, it worked for me.

note: you can check for legit key by opening in start and in the cmd box; type: slui ,that will let you know if key is legit

There you go again, confusing people, reed your own post?

You said; (10 will be a free upgrade for users of 7 and 8 (no expiriation)

than contradict yourself:( except that you must purchase it within one year of release).

This is what MS stated;

Question: Can people update their Windows 10 Technical Preview to full release when it is out?

Response from MS: Yes, you will be able to upgrade from the Windows 10 Technical Preview to the final release.

Question: Is it Free?

MS Answer: Whether or not the upgrade is free probably depends on having windows 7 or 8 still installed so be sure not to wipe out windows 7 or 8 when testing the preview. Install it on a separate partition or hard drive or on a second computer. Or have a system image of windows 7 or 8 that can be reinstalled. That's important since Windows 8 does not come with reinstallation media.

The license doesn't expire. The opportunity to get a free license does. My post was quite clear.

Computers12345, we are always open for further questions on this should you have some, but it has been covered quite a bit in other Preview threads.

Now you were more specific without a doubt; My English is not famous, but if i read in context of what you stated then was misleading,

win 10 will be a free upgrade for users of 7 and 8 (no expiriation) except that you must purchase it within one year of release).

my text would be like this;

Win 10 will be free upgrade for users of win 7,8 (no expiration ) execpt if you do not upgrade within one year of release than you have to purchase it .
