I am installing Windows 7 Pro x64 on the following hardware:

Core i7 930
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev 2.0)
12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS PC3 1600
WD Black Edition 640GB HDD
Samsung DVDRW SATA drive
Nvidia Quadro FX1800

The system passes MEMTEST86 but will not install Windows. The install hangs at "Setup is updating registry settings". Eventually the system reboots and runs through a checkdisk and lists corrupted file after corrupted file.

I have turned on AHCI, I have turned it off, I have turned on Native IDE mode, I have tried different optical drives, I have tried different HDDs, I tried a different Win7 x64 disk. I have tried with 1 DIMM installed, I have tried with 3 DIMMs installed, and I have tried with all 6 DIMMs installed. I bought a second mobo and tried it, I tried some spare Kingston value RAM I had. I tried an Nvidia 8400GS card also.

I have NOT tried to install Windows XP.

This has been going on for 4 days now and I getting very frustrated. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have tried two optical drives a Samsung and Sony/Optiarc. I have also tried two different HDDs.

I reseated the CPU, I removed the hardware from the case and tried the install on my bench. I am really at a loss. I built a similar system in March using a GA-X58-UD5R. So I have no idea what to do next.

Ya, I should have read the OP better.
Sorry I don't have any help, but here is a push to the top.

I have the same motherboard: Gigabyte x58A- UD3R and have tried swapping all the other components. Windows 7 install gets stuck at 'setup is updating registry settings'.

Thanks,
Sebastian
