For the really lazy and often "slow" folks just as me... why does Win7 feel so much faster?

I mean I installed it on my second computer (one i was tinkering with as an HTPC)... Q6600 stock, 4 GB of RAM and an ATI 4550. It's installed on an older WD 500 GB AAKS SATA drive (16 MB cache) and everything on it responds like it's on steroids. I have read many posts on Win7 but I can't figure out why it "feels" so damn quick. Everything just opens and pops up instantly. I mean my Vista 64 feels very good on my Q9550 oc'ed to 3.4 with 8 GB of RAM and a 8800 GTX on a OCZ core2 SSD but this thing feels just as fast!!

The dowload is still 3 GB for the 64 bit.. i can't imagine it being a small install. So size cannot be the answer. Is it all a simple ploy to make the interface feel faster.. ? In vista things got "faster" over time... I had to tweak it to disable a few things. I have not done anything on this and it's still "only" an RTM. I have less RAM... slower video, way slower hardrive and the CPU itself is a bit slower too.

If this is the sign of things to come, you can have my money "more money" Microsoft, since I will be first in line to purchase this OS when it comes out. It recognized all my stuff.. everything works well.. geesh.. !!!

Maybe it's how it utilizes memory. I know what boosted Vista's performance (often over time) was that it did it's best to put as much as it could in memory to help with the launching of applications.

Personally, things opening up right away is pretty cool, but I haven't had a chance to really see how things run overtime. I'm stoked to get this thing installed on my home PC this week!

Going 64-bit giving me incentive to purchase some of that cheap memory out there!
