Windows 7 on primary SSD suddenly won't boot

Hi everyone,

Briefly, my specs:

Q9550 @ 3.4
4GB (2X2) Corsair XMS3
GTX 570
Primary HD - 60gb OCZ Vertex 1 (Indilinx) - Windows 7 x64 SP1 install
Secondary HD - 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 - Windows XP x32 SP3 install + storage for the Windows 7 install

Problem:
I primarily use Windows 7 and keep my old XP install around for some older games that don't like either Windows 7 or the 64-bit environment. The Seagate has two partitions on it, one of which can be seen in W7 and I use for storage.

The problem started when I tried to download a game via GOG.com's downloader (I am asking the question here as opposed to their support as I think that using this was just a coincidence). The downloader showed about 20 minutes to download the game, so I left and then came back. When I returned, my computer was off. When I tried to boot back into Windows 7, I got the following error:

"0xc000000e"
"The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"

So, I rebooted and tried a repair with my W7 disc. No luck - I got an error message saying the repair could not be completed, with the following event errors:

01 - 6.1.7600.16385
02 - 6.1.7600.16385
03 - unknown
04 - "-1"
05 - ExternalMedia
06 - "1"
07 - CorruptBootConfigData

I also tried doing a system restore, but that also failed with the following message:

"There was an unexpected error;
The parameter is incorrect
0x800070057
Please close system restore and try again"

I tried googling these error messages but I must admit some of the postings I found were over my head; most of them seemed to be the result of some external device that had been newly connected, but this is not the case with me - the only devices I have connected are my USB keyboard/mouse, Corsair HS1 USB headset, USB ethernet adapter, and printer. These have all been connected for some time now with no issues.

EDIT: Also tried accessing the command prompt via the "repair" feature from the Win7 DVD and running bootrec /FixMbr and bootrec /FixBoot. Neither of these work. It appears that although the repair DVD recognizes that there is a Win7 installation, it does not recognize the drive that the installation is on.

Ordinarily, I would not have an issue with simply reinstalling W7, but the problem is that I can no longer see the SSD from my Windows XP installation, and I have data I would like to retrieve before reformatting.

Also - not sure if this is relevant, but I also reset the BIOS back to factory settings to remove the overclock if this was the issue - still having the issue.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated - if I have left anything out please let me know.

Thanks - Drew

So the Vertex isn't showing up in the BIOS any more? That's a common issue. Check out the OCZ forum.
