windows 7 not using full ram

so i have installed 6 gb ram in my pc.
but in my computer properties it is only showing :
installed ram 6GB (3.17GB usable)

why only 3gb ram is usable? how can use full 6gb ram?

Would agree, you are only using the 32-bit OS. In order to utilize all 6gb, you need to upgrade to a 64-bit OS

I believe you can go up to 16 (possibly 32) before MS puts on the brakes and says you need a server OS.

You can't upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit Win7 OS - you'll need to back up your important files and do a clean install using a 64 bit install media. It shouldn't give you a problem with 8GB of memory unless your system can't handle that much memory.

or download the 64bit ISO from digital river & install it that way, assumming you have a valid activation key, that is 😱
