Windows 7 Libraries are cool but I want the Documents folder too

So as you may recall, at the top of the start menu in Vista is your username - and when you click it, it brings up all of your various personal folders - music, movies, photos, downloads, etc...

W7 doesn't do this - it brings you to the libraries folder, which is all well and good but I still want to be able to have the option of those other folders. I know they exist, because you can see shortcuts to them in the sidebar of the Computer tab. Does anyone happen to know how to tweak that?

EDIT - For some reason I only have four libraries by default in my folder - is that right?

It's still there if you are willing to navigate to it. Open an explorer window, select Desktop in the navigation pane, then select your user name and you are there.

Just go to the normal location of your "Documents" folder (C: -> Users -> etc, I believe), and you could probably make a shortcut to it on your desktop or taskbar.

You do know you can add folders to your libraries, right? You could essentially make your library folder your "Documents" folder, with the ability to have other libraries in there as well.

The default view and save location of the document folder is your user documents folder, and likewise for music, photos etc. . For all intents and purposes, if you change nothing, it's exactly the same thing as vista in function, the only difference being you can now consolidate everything in one place. There's a folder view that makes this extremely obvious, I believe it's content view.

BD - I understand that, I just only have four libraries in my "username" folder in the start menu, so I suppose I could create some new libraries for downloads and other things - it's just that, in my users folder, I have all of those folders (and this is going to sound stupid) with their own icons - and it would be silly not to use them 🙁

But by using the libraries you ARE literally using those very same user folders. And they have their own icons.

I don't quite understand what it is that you're trying to accomplish that isn't already being done. The libraries are not separate folders - theyre just collections of dynamic links to your already existing user folders.

What would you gain by going directly to the user folder instead of accessing it through the already conveniently set up and more powerful library?
