Replace Vista and solve all your problems? Hmmmm......been using Vista Ultimate x64 since its release to retail and, other than the slow file transfer rate to USB devices which was fixed with SP1, I have had no problems at all. So what does W7 solve? My games fly (Q9550 @ 3.6GHz, 8GB DDR2-1000 RAM, ATI 4870 1GB video......), everything else works without incident.

I really like Vista, but 7 does have it's advantages. For one, it uses the winmin kernal and flies. It's noticeably quicker than Vista. Second, it gives you the option to uninstall MS programs like WMP12 and IE8 etc. Speaking of, WMP12 has a ton of cool features. The "play to" and internet streaming are just an example. There are many more things, but those are what stick out to me.

Obviously it's not for everyone, but lots of people will want the latest and in this case, MS delivers strong with a great OS. That's not just my opinion either. That's the general consensus.

I agree its a lot more zippy than vista. I couldn't believe the improvement in performance when I upgraded my mom's celeron 1.73ghz laptop.

The interesting thing is there isn't much real speed gains, it's all perceived. Basically they made it more responsive to "feel" faster.

It worked.

It's insane MS is releasing this so soon after Vista.

I don't think so, considering the number of people who were unhappy with or wanted nothing to do with Vista. They are trying to get a superior product out there that will make people forget the Vista name. 7 could probably have been released at some point as Vista SP3 or Vista SE, but would the reaction be as positive if it still bore the Vista name? I kinda doubt it. This makes 7 feel even more refreshing, even if it really isn't that huge of a leap from Vista. 7 fixes almost all of the annoyances I had with Vista while providing noticeably better performance and a more well thought-out interface between the user and OS.

If you were wanting to do a Windows 7 upgrade over a Windows 7 (the 1st beta i.e.7000)
there is a way even though M$ says not...

Their download manager doesn't even work. Comes up blank in Firefox, and doesn't even start in IE. Nice.

EDIT: Disabling Java in Firefox lets it come up as a browser DL.
