Windows 7 Installation hangs on Asus P6X58D Premium

Yesterday I picked up an open box Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard from a local B&M store. Just for kicks, I decided to try installing Windows 7 Premium (on a Crucial CT64M225) using the Marvell SATA controller. The Windows installation hangs on the black screen that says "starting windows". Is my SATA III controller not backwards compatible with SATA II devices or is there something wrong with my open box "bargain" motherboard?

Possibly a dud board yeah, tried updating the BIOS for the heck of it?

Also this might sound wacky, but if you don't have a floppy drive, disable the floppy interface in the BIOS. I've seen the installation of Vista and 7 hang / install extremely slowly on both Asus and gigabyte mb's with newer chipsets.

Thanks for the replies...
Windows does install when I switch to the sata 2 ports but it hangs if I plug anything into the sata 3 port. I tried just plugging in the dvd burner with my hard drives on sata 2 and it still hung. I'd just like someone to tell me if that's to be expected when using sata 2 drives on a sata 3 controller. If not, I'm returning the board.

By the way, the floppy drive is disabled and I did update the BIOS already.

I never was able to get far enough into the Windows 7 installation to install any drivers.
I returned the motherboard and got a similar Gigabyte board as a replacement. I ran into the same problem. I did figure out that it was my dvd burner that was causing the issue. If I hook it up to the sata 2 port and hook the hard drives to sata 3 it works fine.
