My Windows Update is no longer working and my Microsoft security essentials will not download updates any longer.

Windows Update complains that the Windows Update Service is Not Running, Security Essentials Update produces error 0xc8000247 and will not update.

I recently cloned my laptops hard drive to a new larger drive using the Western Digital Acronis True Image package? Could this have anything to do with it..I am not getting any Windows Activation Errors?

Things I have Tried:

Checked that Windows Update Service and all Dependencies are running (Appear to be)

Run Spybot Search and Destroy, Malware Bytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials scan with a manual update with no issues

Tried the Automatic Fix Windows Update Tool in both normal and aggressive mode

Stopped windows update services deleted everything under c:\windows\software distribution, started update service...still no joy

Any Suggestions? The last Windows Update I received as on 7/15 which was actually well before I imaged my hard drive to the new drive.

All symptoms of Windows not thinking your copy is genuine. It will not install or update security essentials or non-critical windows updates.

Maybe the SID wasn't not correctly updated during the clone. Have you tried reactiviating?

Thanks for the suggestions. Windows still shows up as properly activated, and the date and time are correct.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.
