Windows 7 Computer Not Booting Right

Back to the forums with another problem that has me stumped again.

My computer was running fine last night, played some games, did an assignment, worked on a paper, etc. When I was done I put my computer in sleep mode, as I usually do, unless there is an update to install.

When I tried turning on my computer this morning, it started up, lights and fan etc. but after a few seconds it turned off without displaying anything on the screen. It then proceeded to try and start up again, but after about a minute of being "on" it never displayed anything.

After fiddling with just about everything in the computer (I did build it a while back), I eventually got things to start showing up on the display again. However, now it gets to the "Loading Windows" screen, sits there for a moment, and then powers off.

Oddly enough, I can get the computer to boot in safe mode and everything that is in safe mode seems to work fine (I'm writing this from safe mode with networking). Even odder is that when I try shutting down or restarting my computer from safe mode, it loads everything fine until it says "shutting down" with a spinning loading icon, it then freezes and crashes/shuts down, and if I selected restart, it doesn't turn back on.

This has got me really stumped, I can't seem to find any decent information on this problem. Any help would be appreciated, in the mean time, I'll just be sitting in safe mode.

Also, I have tried a system restore, resetting the BIOS to default settings, and windows start-up repair. None of these have helped. Windows start-up repair does the same thing as normal windows (even when trying a repair disc). It loads for a minute, sits at a black screen, then turns off, I never even get to see the repair menu.

Asus Motherboard (not sure on specifics for it, if anyone could suggest a tool that would identify it, it would be appreciated)
Nvidia 450 GTS Graphics Card
Intel I7 870 Quad Core @2.93ghz
12Gb DDR3 Ram

Anything else I need to add for specs? These seem like the most important things.

Update: I normally run windows 7, but I have an Ubuntu disc that I can boot from. Unfortunately, that also failed to boot right, after loading it I got the black screen with the blinking cursor (looks like _) and then my computer shut down. I don't mind if I have to wipe everything on my computer, its all mostly games anyway, but I don't know if that will solve anything. Thanks again for any help I can get.

You may want to try running some scans; Malwarebytes in Safe Mode, bootable CD or USB of AVG [or other virus scanner]. If that doesn't work then I would backup the data and re-install. This doesn't seem like a hardware issue as you are able to boot into safe mode.

It doesn't look like any of my scans are going to turn anything up; any other suggestions? Would wiping everything and installing Ubuntu work?

Boot your computer into safe mode, and run "msconfig." Once it opens go to the "services" tab and check the box and the bottom that says "hide all microsoft services" and then disable everything. Next go to the "Startup" tab and disable everything. Exit and restart in normal mode.

If your problem still occurs then boot back into safe mode and check the Event Log and post what you find. Check around the date and time when you first started encountering this issue. You can find the event log by typing it in the search function after you click the start button. Or you can Right-click "My Computer" and click "Manage" and you will find it there.

The only errors I could find were:
"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service ShellHWDetection with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{DD522ACC-F821-461A-A407-50B198B896DC}"

"DCOM got error "1068" attempting to start the service BITS with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}"

After a little googling, it looks like Avast may be the problem? I'll unistall as suggested by that forum and restart; if it works, I'll install it later. I've never had a problem with Avast before, seems rather odd.

Still doesn't boot; freezes up at the "loading windows" screen and turns off. That event is: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

The other errors I'm getting are:

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AsIO
discache
SCDEmu
spldr
Wanarpv6"

"The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> was unavailable to handle a notification event."

"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service ShellHWDetection with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{DD522ACC-F821-461A-A407-50B198B896DC}"

"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}"

"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{7D096C5F-AC08-4F1F-BEB7-5C22C517CE39}"

"The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> was unavailable to handle a notification event."

Now what?

Were it my system, I'd download and burn a MEMTEST86+ ISO and run a few test sessions on your memory modules (one at a time) just to be safe. If that turns up no errors, I'd then download a disk utility (if you are running on a mechanical hard disk instead of an SSD) from the hard disk manufacturer and test the hard drive for faults.

Would my system still be able to boot in safe mode if there were a problem with the memory or the hard disc?

open safe mode with command.type in sfc/scannow

Ok, after putting each of my different RAM cards into each RAM slot one at a time; one of them actually managed to boot windows correctly by itself in my 3rd slot. Looks like 2 of my slots and 2 of my RAM cards don't work. I don't think I tested one of them though. I find it weird that the computer would work the night before, then decided to fry my RAM the next morning and that I was able to boot in safe mode with dud RAM cards in. Thanks for the help; I'll try to add RAM to it later.

The blinking curser is the PC getting stuck trying to find a bootable device. That is usually a faulty drive but as you can see a ram stick can also case this.

I only got stuck on the blinking cursor when I tried to boot an Ubuntu disc after the main menu, but now I know what that means if I ever see that happen again. Thanks : )
