Windows 7 can't create a basic partition?

Windows 7 wants to convert a basic disk to dynamic just to create a partition in unallocated space. I don't want dynamic disks because some of my software isn't compatible with dynamic.

I could swear I created a basic partition before with Windows 7. :$

You only get 4 primary partitions with a legacy BIOS partition table, I bet you've already got that many and no extended partitions.

No need to resort to Dynamic Disk. Win 7 computer management will create partitions. If you already have created 4, Nothinman rules. 🙂

I don't think Windows 7 can create extended partitions...only primary partitions. I will need third party software for that.
