Windows 7 Beta problem...

I was going to install the windows 7 x64 beta on my main rig, but it comes up to the press any key to boot from cd (or in this case dvd) and then does nothing... just sits there with a black screen and "press any key to boot from cd ..."

Burnt another dvd (in case it was a dvd issue), same problem.

Tried both dvds on another computer and they worked fine. All be it the other computer already had vista on it rather than xp.

The dvds were burnt at low speeds and verified after completion too...

Anybody have any thoughts?

(I can't fire up the beta inside xp as it is 32 bit pro and a 64 bit beta, but I can access all the files)

When I installed the program, I got all the way to the end of the install and then the screen garbaged up. Tried it again and the same thing. Ended up unclocking the computer and tried it again and it worked.

Did you check the boot sequence in the BIOS?
What optical drive is it, and what system you got?

IIRC the drive is a Pioneer DVR-111.

Boot sequence is floppy (required when I installed xp) -> DVD drive -> WD -> WD

The system is a dual xeon 5320 with an intel 5000x chipset.

Win 7 does Not have a driver for my SCSI Raid card,(320-2E), formatting drives on a 39160 now. If it does not have a driver for that, Microsoft can stick it up its ass sideways.

I'm also having problems installing- installation is hanging at the starting windows screen after loading information from the disk.

Well, its not that it hangs at all, just does not see my Scsi Raid setup, thats even after I cleared the config on the card and re-configurated the drives. Its simple for me, asswipe Microsoft has no drivers for the card. What morons.

For those of you surprised by my language, this has been a 2 day ordeal and I am fed up.

I had this problem above when I tried to boot with my Pioneer dvd drive and Win7 ,I basically used my Lite-On USB External DVD drive and it could read the Win7 DVD disk I burnt where as my old Pioneer DVD drive could not,I never even bothered installing from boot,did it in Windows all was fine.

Sometimes I hate cd and dvd drives. Why are some so picky? Mine is pretty picky as well.

It happens, lucky my Lite-On USB drive reads virtually everything and never gives me any problems,now I know why USB ones are handy .

Yeah but it really shouldn't. I guess that is why I am so pushy with myself in doing a lot of research before buying a new dvd-rw drive. Sucks but it has to be done.

i managed to go through the whole installation with no problems, until what seemed to be the final restart and reboot, then it said the upgrade did not succeed (sigh!)

I had this with a shuttle ft20 motherboard. I updated the BIOS and it then worked to a treat.

I had the same problem, waited around 5 minutes and it continued the install. It stalled a couple more times too during the install but i just let it be and it finished the install in the end.

Maybe your DVD drive is attached to the motherboard with a SATA cable through the RAID controller? It may help to either install without RAID, JBOD, or to use a DVD burner with the old IDE interface.

The DVD drive is an IDE drive so I shouldn't have problems with the RAID controller.

No I forgot...

Nah I just hit a key and then nothing... no progress, no whirring, nada.

Backed up the lappy and installed it without a glitch on it, so the disc works for installing off. Fiddled about a bit and quite like it, seems snappy enough on the laptop (which also has vista on it). Booting between the two is easy. One thing is that 7 doesn't recognise the partition that vista is on, although that may be because vista is on C:\ and 7 likes to think of itself on C:\ even though its on E:\

Have you checked the manufacturer's website? You should be able to find drivers. Use Vista drivers... load them onto a flash drive and Windows will give you the option to load storage drivers during setup.

It's not Microsoft's responsibility to provide drivers for every piece of hardware. Having a SCSI RAID setup, one would think you'd be knowledgeable enough to realize from time to time you may need to hunt down drivers for your not-so-common setup.

Again, this is a beta. Too many people seem to confuse "beta" with "free trial."

That was rude as hell. Of course I checked the websites, no driver for 7. I also tried an Adapted 39160 and a 29160. No drivers for those Very common devices either. I got it installed on a WD Sata drive and searched Win 7's drivers as to SCSI and its pretty limited so far.

I'm not the one stomping around using "language" and blaming Microsoft that I can't find drivers for one of my devices. Windows 7 is in beta, how do you expect to find drivers on the manufacturer's website for a beta OS? That's ridiculous. Use Vista drivers... here... I even found them for you (you'll need to scroll down a bit). If that doesn't work... submit feedback to Microsoft, this is what a public beta test is all about.
