I think they fixed that issue in Vista with SP2 but it might still be wonky for some I guess. All I know is I used to get frustrated when the games explorer or some of my folders would revert to some other setting from what I set it to do. That doesn't seem to be happening now but I have noticed that some of my windows don't remember how big/small they should be when I resize them. That's less annoying than the icon sizes constantly changing though.

Anyway heres a site that explains how to fix it in Vista.. http://www.vistax64.com/tutori...der-view-settings.html. I guess it would work for Windows 7 too but I'm not sure.. I wouldn't think it would be needed in the final version when its released later this year but Microsoft does forget to fix small things like that sometimes I guess.
 
I hate how you can no longer move the "quick start" item to the right of the taskbar. I've ran it that way for years, and now they force you to have it on the left, just like IE and the favorites.
 
Too many last minute changes without advance notice to software developers. As a result, some products do not run, and are being feverishly patched and/or updates prepared.

Yea, I'm thinking maybe Daemon tools. I'm using the latest free version with beta support for 7, and Windows throws the compatibility flag.
 
Can't delete the Favorites folder or the Contacts folder without them popping back up after a while.

how dumb is this? well, let's say you want to free up ~1000M on your USB drive. in xp, you keep selecting files until you see the total add up to ~1000M and hit delete. in 7, you select some, click details to see what you have so far, select some more, click details, etc. or you delete a bunch, go to my computer to see the free disk space, go back, delete some more, etc.

the status bar is triple the size on XP, but doesn't show the one piece of info most useful to you. EPIC. FAIL.

Can you hover your mouse over the selected files? Doesn't it give you the combined size? Could be wrong.

I miss the show desktop button (yes I know there is a similar one on the right, but I don't like it there)

Windows 7 (or something, but I suspect Windows) decided to obliterate my Outlook profile and trash it beyond redemption.

Never had that happen before in the ten years I've been using it. Um....yeah. Lucky i backed it up a few days ago.
 
The next big bummer is that Windows 7 will not upgrade XP Pro. You have to get involved with the "Easy Transfer" crap. Bottom line - this machine will stay with XP Pro.
 
AUDIO - Worked fine after I installed Win 7. System went into standby, came out, now I've got problems.
It refuses to output audio on my speaker line saying it cant find the connection. I DONT GIVE A FUCK IF YOU CAN SEE THE SPEAKERS OR NOT! Just output audio you dumb bastard!

Looking for a workaround right now. Already tried plugging the cable in & out several times. That didnt help. Which makes sense because to the best of my knowledge the onboard audio cant detect if theres a plug in there or not.
 
My CPen20 scanner will not work in Windows 7. Have to use other laptop running XP in order to use my CPen 20. Hopefully they CPen will come out with a Windows 7 driver.
Can't get on to Citrix using 7 either. Says soemthing about socket error.
 
This has irked me about Windows for a long time (not just Win7), but now it really annoys me after having used OS X for a while: mouse wheel scroll behavior.

I use the wheel on my mouse to scroll a lot. I firmly believe that the mouse wheel should scroll whatever is directly under the mouse cursor. In OS X it does this, even if the window under the cursor doesn't have focus!

In Windows? Not the case. Some programs do it right (Firefox, Cubase, etc.), but the one program in which I really need it to work doesn't do it: Windows Explorer.

Let's say I select a folder in the folder tree on the left pane. The right pane now shows the contents of that folder. Then let's say the file I'm looking for is pretty far down the list so that I have to scroll to find it. I move my mouse cursor over to the right pane and start scrolling. Guess what? The folder tree pane is scrolling! If I wanted to scroll the folder tree, I wouldn't have moved my cursor over to the contents pane! In order to scroll the contents I have to click on something in that pane!

What a pain!

You would think that with all of the ideas Windows and OS X steal from each other that something simple like this would have been fixed in Windows by now. Ugh.

Running RTM 7 x64:
-- Audio problems: I went back to Vista SP2 on my HTPC
-- CD ISO mount - New Alcohol 52 free works fine now.
-- MCE looks more cluttered than vista's.
Overall it runs very well on my box. i7 920 stock, 6GB, 64gb SLC SSD and RAID6 for storage.

Hover over the icon for the program and pick the window you want when it pops up. Makes managing multiple windows of the same program a lot easier for me.
 
so far my biggest gripe is windows messenger resting on my taskbar, I have not figured out how to get it to go to the place on the right where other icons hide

has anyone had problems with the volume constantly fluctuating?

for some, this problem was rooted in sound---> communications ---> "when windows detects communications activity..." where the solution was to set to "do nothing"

i've done that and installed the latest drivers for my on-board audio chipset. still getting annoying, random changes in volume :|

Have you tried putting Quick Launch back on and making the taskbar almost exactly like Win Vista and XP?

I use all three of these extensively and have never had any problems with them. I've used them on most versions of W7, currently have retail Pro and it works fine.

I honestly don't think the built in codec is that bad. I am running a AMD 4850e in my HTPC and I have no trouble playing L4.1 H.264 1080p files that I encoded from bluray with x264.

I also haven't noticed any artifacts either, atleast in the RTM. The 7100 wasn't very good.

It's not native, but if you search around, some programmers hacked together a UI that looks like the classic menu if you really want to have that instead of the current start menu.

I too was semi-annoyed at the start menu but I guess I'll try to get used to the new one.

The only real annoyance I have is that my old printer had issues getting installed because there were no 64 bit drivers that worked well but it seems to be semi-working now.
