Windows 7 32bit for HTPC need and RAM requirement question....

So i am going to upgrade my HTPC from XP to Windows 7 and I am debating on how much RAM to put it. It has 2GB of RAM and I am wondering how well windows 7 32Bit will run on that machine.

Since Win 7 is improved over Vista, is 2GB enough to run the system smoothly as I am only using it to watch HD movies and DVDs.

I have a socket 939 x2 3800+ with 1.75 GB of ram on my HTPC, and it runs flawlessly as a HD-DVR. You should be fine.

Resource Meter widget on Windows 7 desktop for me seems to indicate about 1 - 1.5 GB memory usage during web-surfing, tv tuner, and dvd playback.

Just remember integrated graphics will take away 512MB from that.
I went for 4GB of ram in my HTPC, but just because it's so cheap. I figured "What's an extra $10?"

All integrated graphics mobo's I've used let you set the amount of ram reserved for video.

No way would I have it set to 512MB. I would think 64 or 128 would be plenty.

Win7 32bit works great for my HTPC with only 2gb. It outputs BRD/HDDVD and "other" HD content to my 720p LCD using HDMI.
