Hey guys, I just got a Gateway 7029E (quad, 4 gig, 8800 GT) with vista 64bit.

I installed a few demos and they are all crashing. The screen changes colors and the PC locks up. This includes Crysis, FarCry2, Devil may cry.

I have no idea what is wrong. I have updated the drivers to the newest ones and it still crashes.

I am not sure this is the correct forum for this, but I am looknig for help.

Gateway support said return it. Not much help.

It happens in ALL the games/demos you've tried? Do you have all the Windows Update patches? Sounds very odd, maybe try the most recent DirectX installer?

Only other thing I can think of (since you have newest drivers) is a bad video card.

Not a 64 problem. I play Crysis on my workstation with no problems and it is using XP64.

Even though you are using Vista 64, that is much more friendly then XP64. So I doubt it is the OS

That's what I was thinking. Either a bad video card, or it's not getting enough power.

Bad memory, bad motherboard, bad video card, bad/underpowered PSU could all cause that problem. Could also be corrupted drivers or any number of other problems.

First things I would do are fully update the system drivers and windows updates. Run Furmark to check for problems with video card (keep an eye on temps and watch for artifacts while testing). Run memtest86 overnight to test for bad memory. PSU & motherboard issues are much harder to diagnose without opening the case which may void your warranty (not suggested). If you don't pinpoint the issue with these ideas just follow their advice & return the system for repair/replacement.
