Windows 3.11

This may sound like a silly question. But my work place is upgrading the office computer from the old stone tablet. That they bought many years back. They will be giving me the old system just to get rid of it. The computer is a old HP Vectra VL2 4/66. It does not have any form on windows on it. So I bought a 'unopened Windows 3.11' off ebay for near to nothing.

Now for my real question. Is there any place on the net that I could download old patches for this OS ? I like to get the old thing on the internet just to goof around with. 🙂 But like to be a little safer surfing the net then using a unpatched OS.

Just like to get the old boy running good. I would hate to take it in the field and shoot it. 😛 Just kidding on that one. I did try searching on google.com for it. But did not find anything.

I don't think there were patches for windows back then.

There was another thread about getting a windows 3.1 system on the web a little while ago, try searching for it.

And, you nick suits you 😉

Win 3.11 was just a little different than win 3.1 as it was written to be a workgroup OS. No patches for either of these as they did not need any, they were perfect in every way, Bill Gates said so and I believed him. Somewhere I have a copy of the IE that was for this os and if you need it PM me and I will see if I can find it.

I found the IE 3.03 the 4 floppy install version which is for Win 3.11. I all ready download it and got it ready. This computer does not have a cd rom drive. But I might be able to install one maybe. Just got to wait untell I get the thing home. So I can look the whole thing over some.

I like to do some crazy things now and then. 😛 I just picked to get a old system like this running and up on the net.

Uhh, there were separate releases of Windows for Workgroups and "basic" Windows.
Windows for Workgroups was the workgroup version... but there was a later release
of regular Windows branded 3.11.

Once I got bored and got my old 386DX25 connected to my LAN, sharing files, and online via my shared cable modem connection and Arachne web browser. All with DOS 6.22 no less. 😀

I would connect this old computer to the network. But the system has only 4 ISA slots total. I don't have a old ISA 10T lancard laying around. Guess I could try to get one from ebay maybe sometime. I all ready got the system on the net with the 14.4 modem the system had installed.

I got a old 56k ISA modem on hand. But for some reason the system don't like that modem.

I bought an old 3com ISA 10BaseT nic off AT FS/T for $15 a couple years back. I'm sure you could find one for less today. 14.4 makes baby jesus cry. 😛😉
